Olle Eksell - The Documentary
By Johan Andersson — Olle Eksell was the creative designer ahead of his time. This could be seen in the famous eyes of cacao, which was part of Sweden’ s first design program that Olle designed for Mazetti 1956. Besides being an excellent designer and writer, Olle Eksell was a great visionary. This can be seen in his book Design = Ekonomi (1964) where he in a clear and elegant discussion brought forth the important relationship between design and economy. Good design is not just aesthetic – it is also good economy. Good design is not just cool – it is bloody serious! But who was he? What has he meant to the Swedish and international design? With documentary film about Olle and his life, we want to provide answers and demonstrate the exciting person behind the famous eyes.
Who knows the most about Olle Eksell? This should reasonably his life partner and widow do.
Therefore, we interviewed Ruthel Eksell at her apartment at Gärdet in Stockholm. An exciting conversation about Olle and her life together that describes Olle as a person, creator and husband.
When we turned the camera off we had over 6 hours of material to process and cut.
Now we have reached the halfway point in our work and are proud to show parts of the edited work, both as a trailer here and at www.olleeksell.se
We are looking for funds to complete the film. To get an overall picture of Olle Eksell and his importance to not only Swedish design and communication, but also to create an international understanding of his visionary work, we want to shoot and edit conversations with today's designers in Sweden and internationally.
Our intention is to keep costs down. Rent from camera and light etc is unavoidable. But the biggest costs comes from trips to and from the people we want to interview in order to provide as complete picture of Olle in the documentary as we can.

Johan Andersson, 35 year old is a graphic designer. When Johan moved to Stockholm in 2001 from Vänersborg in Sweden to study advertising at Bergh’s School of Communication. He began a friendship with Olle Eksell and Ruthel Eksell that would change his life. Olle became Johan’s mentor, friend and biggest inspiration, both professionally and as a person. They were close friends, until Olle Eksells death 2007.
